Global cement will continue in the future beyond 2060 with its rapid use in Africa and Asia. Globally cement account for 2.5 GT of C02 emissions which is almost 7.3% of the global emissions. It is going to have the most difficult challenges in the future to shift to a low carbon economy.
We are also witnessing now, low carbon #future linked industry innovations happening which is promoting emissions reduction.
Innovations can be in emissions reduction by the increased usage of waste-derived fuels and biomass across cement manufacturing companies using a variety of technologies.
Eliminating process emissions will require the use of carbon capture and storage which will add costs. These costs may be offset partially through the development of technology for building materials, synthetic fuels, etc.
World Cement Association supports a sustainable cement industry and welcomes its decarbonization. It aims to accelerate such efforts to keep the rise in global temperatures close to 1.5 degrees.
